Mayo & The Wild Atlantic Way

County Mayo is on the west coast of Ireland, at the heart of the spectacular Wild Atlantic Way which stretches from West Cork to Donegal, 2,500 km (1,553 mile) driving route passes through nine counties and three provinces).

Mulranny (an Mhala Raithní in irish) is a small village on the shores of Clew Bay which has to be a contender for the most beautiful in Ireland. It is filled with small islands known as drumlins, and some larger inhabited islands too, including Clare Island, Inis Turk and Achill (Oileán Chliara, Inis Toirc, Acaill). We are the perfect location from which to explore the islands, and if you wish to visit them we can help you arrange this.

We are also a two minute walk to The Great Western Greenway, a spectacular cycle and pedestrian route from Westport to Achill, which runs along an old disused railway and brings you off road into the bogs and foothills of the Nephin mountain range.

We are surrounded by mountains, fields of wild flowers, cascading streams, heather covered bogs and a wild and rocky coastline, which our low stone houses cling to so as not to be blown away. This place is heaven on earth bathed in sunshine and blue skies – with the magnificent contrast of wild raging seas and ferocious roaring winds in winter – or sometimes in the summer also! Don’t come to Ireland if you want guaranteed good weather – come to Ireland if you want a place of stunning contrasts, close to nature and the elements.

Wild birds proliferate in our rare salt marshes, sea cliffs and hedgerows, hares and rabbits run free. Seals, dolphins, basking sharks and whales populate our waters. Mountain sheep expect you to get out of their way on the roads and indigenous & rare wild goats stroll into the village and eat our flowers like they own the place. They do, they have been here for centuries, and are under threat of extinction.

We are on the N59 the main road through Mulranny village on the left-hand side after the filling station as you come from Newport.  We are just over an hour to Knock airport, 40 mins from Castlebar the county town, and 30 mins from Westport. We are a 10 min drive from Achill Island and 20 mins from Ballycroy National Park.
